Job Details
We are a busy, multi-centre small animal practice based in the beautiful counties of Warwickshire and Worcestershire, with four sites comprising of three branches in Alcester, Henley-in-Arden and Worcester and our hospital, also in Worcester.
All our practices offer a comprehensive first opinion veterinary service and are well-equipped with digital x-ray, dental x-ray, ultrasound and laboratory facilities. In addition, we offer a range of internal referral services including orthopaedic and spinal referrals, a full rehabilitation service with hydrotherapy suite, ophthalmology, laparoscopic procedures and CT scanning.
We are passionate about learning and happy to be able to support career progression, so if you have a special area of interest, are looking to take on a certificate or just generally want to improve your skills, we can help you achieve this. Our Clinical Director, Mary, loves mentoring vets and runs our mentoring programme, so no matter your level of experience we can offer you the right support and a varied caseload to help you succeed.
We are expanding and are looking for a small animal vet with some experience to join our first opinion branch in the lovely market town of Alcester. There is also the opportunity to split your role with part of your rota at the hospital.
Our vets work a 4-day week (9am to 7pm), with 1:9 weekends (Saturday and Sundays 9am-5pm with two hours paid in the middle of the day to have lunch or return home if commutable), with no out-of-hours or on call as this is outsourced to Vets Now, who we host at our hospital. Any inpatients needing overnight, or out-of-hours treatment are transferred to the hospital for continued care under Vets Now.
Whilst the role will initially involve some sole charge, we are in the process of expanding the branch into a multi-vet site so this will only be temporary, and you will always have the support of an experienced team on site comprising of an RVN, SVN and receptionist, and the option to refer patients to the hospital.
Also, you will always have a team of experienced vets just a phone call away, including certificate holders in medicine (Mary & Helen), cardiology (Mark), surgery (Heidi), imaging (James) and orthopaedics (Jock, who has over 20 years’ experience). We believe everyone has something to offer the team and with monthly branch meetings, case discussions and clinical clubs we are ready to hear your thoughts and ideas.
We believe in the importance of a work-life balance, so our morning consults finish at 10.30am and don’t start again until 2pm. This allows plenty of time for your first opinion operating schedule and a proper lunch break, when you can take advantage of the lovely little cafes, Waitrose or Simply Fresh, which are a short five-minute walk away. Our consults finish at 6.30pm with the last appointment kept back for emergencies allowing you the time to catch up on admin, call owners, report lab results etc and still get out the door on time.
We are a friendly, sociable bunch and enjoy getting together outside of work whether it’s to celebrate the season with our Christmas party, to walk the many practice dogs, or to take part in charity fundraising. Our central location provides easy access to Birmingham, Wales and the Southwest as well as the beautiful Cotswolds, and the Malvern Hills.
