Your role and responsibilities
The role of the theatre technician is to provide support to the surgeon and nurses as a part of the theatre team. We have 5 surgeons and 4 neurologists along with their interns, two surgical nurses and many rotational nurses and nursing students passing through theatre. You will be a valued member of staff, fully participating in the patient journey through theatre. The role has scope for progression for the right applicant. Enthusiasm and a great work ethic are a must, returned with a fantastic opportunity to work in a really rewarding and friendly environment.
You will have the opportunity to assist with various aspects of patient care during the surgical procedure, to include clipping and prepping of the patient, transfer to theatre, assisting the nurse at the end of the procedure to clean and dress the patient’s wound and then transfer them back out of theatre. During the procedure you will be supporting the surgeon and anaesthesia nurse, opening kit, providing extra kit and acting as go-between for the anaesthesia nurse and anaesthetist.
Other valuable theatre duties involve cleaning and preparing theatre for the next surgery and all important stock control in theatre.
Outside of theatre you will be carrying out essential work in the prep room to support the nursing staff with various cases. Processing kit used during surgery to clean and re-sterilise it ready for the next use is another key part of this role.
