  • To provide an extended ward based role providing a POD checking service at ward level, developing counselling, supporting medicines reconciliation and checking drug histories.
  • This role requires the post holder to manage time and workload effectively as well as working unsupervised.
  • The post holder will be a certified ACPT pharmacy technician who has undergone a course of in-house Medicines Management training and holds or is currently working towards a nationally recognised accreditation.
QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE Essential BTEC (pharmaceutical science) or recognised equivalent and/or NVQ level 3 (pharmaceutical science)
  • Registered as a pharmacy technician with the General Pharmaceutical Council (GPhC)
  • Completion of Trust competency based training requirement for Basic Grade Pharmacy Technician
  • Recognised Accredited Checking Technician Qualification
  • In-house Medicines Management qualification e.g. PODs, Technician Transcribing, Medicines Reconciliation
Desirable Experience of working directly with patients
  • Further recognised qualifications, e.g. KSS Deanery National Medicines Management
SKILLS & KNOWLEDGE Essential Be able to communicate effectively in both written and verbal formats with staff and patients
  • Good interpersonal and counselling skills
  • Good organisational skills
  • Supervisory skills – able to help a team prioritise and work safely and effectively under pressure
  • Range of IT skills
  • Knowledge of JAC computer system
  • Able to use initiative whilst knowing when to refer
  • Mandatory CPD to maintain fitness to practice
Desirable Skilled in delivering training
  • Able to contribute to writing procedures and training packages
