Senior Animal Technician (Aquatics)

We are looking to recruit a Senior Aquatics Animal Technician to join our friendly, hardworking team and be actively involved in the daily care and maintenance or aquatic species within our busy biofacilities in Cambridge. As a member of a hard working team you will support the Aquatics Facilities Manager and Chief Technicians with the care and welfare of aquatics species housed in recirculating and standalone systems. You will provide technical support to research users and technicians within the facility; undertake regulated, non-regulated as well as surgical procedures associated with the production and maintenance of genetically altered fish and frogs; as well as conducting daily husbandry tasks. You will also support the daily supervision of a small team of technicians. This role will involve working within multiple aquatics facilities, determined by the level of support required within each facility. Previous experience working within a designated establishment with fish and frogs as well as specific use of large aquatic recirculating and standalone systems, breeding and maintenance of genetically altered fish is desirable. Home Office Licence modules A – C and IAT level 2 is desirable. You must also have experience supervising others including experience providing training. You should have good communication and interpersonal skills, able to work as part of a team, interacting with team colleagues and research staff at all levels. Demonstrable knowledge of relevant Home Office legislation and concepts of animal technician work are also essential.
