University Hospitals of Morecambe Bay NHS Foundation Trust (UHMB) invites applications for a part-time Consultant in Restorative Dentistry. This is a part time post attracting 6 PAs. This post is to replace an existing consultant, to join the oral and maxillofacial department to provide the restorative consultant input. The post will be based in Lancaster at the Royal Lancaster Infirmary with potential to work at other sites serving both Lancashire and South Cumbria patients. For the successful candidate the job plan will be negotiable. The Unit provides a comprehensive secondary care service in all aspects of restorative dentistry. The service provides advice and treatment plans to local dentists as well as enjoying multi-disciplinary working alongside colleagues in orthodontics and oral and maxillofacial surgery. The restorative service has developed a managed clinical network in South Cumbria for endodontics which, supports the service. Discussions have started with the local commissioners about an MCN in restorative dentistry and the successful candidate would be able to become involved in developing this further. Links have been developed with Lancashire Teaching Hospital, [the regional centre for Head and Neck cancer treatment] to allow local patients to be treated locally. The maxillofacial unit also provides teaching for those for University of Central Lancashire (UCLAN) students based at the Morecambe Dental Education Centre and has close links with UCLAN. The teams has recently been joined by an Honorary Consultant in Endodontics, based at UCLAN and there is scope for further development in this area. There are offices, secretarial and computer facilities on all of our sites. We have and electronic EPR and PACs system for radiography and digital photography across the Bay. There is a fully equipped maxillofacial laboratory based at the Royal Lancaster Infirmary with high quality and skilled technical support. You should be fully registered with the General Dental Council with a licence to practice and on the specialist list for Restorative Dentistry. You should have successfully completed, or be within 6 months of an SAC approved training in restorative dentistry or equivalent at the time of interview. For further details / informal visits contact: David Fisher, Clinical Lead Maxillofacial We operate from three main hospitals – Furness General Hospital (FGH) in Barrow, the Royal Lancaster Infirmary (RLI), and Westmorland General Hospital (WGH) in Kendal, as well as a number of community health care premises including Millom Hospital and GP Practice, Queen Victoria Hospital in Morecambe, and Ulverston Community Health Centre. FGH and the RLI have a range of General Hospital services, with full Emergency Departments, Critical/Coronary Care units and various Consultant-led services. WGH provides a range of General Hospital services, together with an Urgent Treatment Centre, that can help with a range of non-life threatening conditions such as broken bones and minor illnesses. All three main hospitals provide a range of planned care including outpatients, diagnostics, therapies, day case and inpatient surgery.
