Pharmacy Technician Higher Level – Clinical Technical Services

An opportunity has arisen for an experienced hospital technician to participate in the provision of pharmaceutical services within the Renal Pharmacy Team at UHC. The role will provide technical support to the redesign of pharmacy services in the Renal Unit at University Hospital Crosshouse and Uuniversity Hospital Ayr and contribute to the pharmaceutical aspects of medicines reconciliation, repurposing of patients own medicines and patient counselling. You will be responsible for the provision, co-ordination and development of this service within the Renal Unit. Key responsibilities may change in line with the needs of the service but will include liaising with clinical pharmacists, consultants, nurses, pharmacotherapy team and community pharmacists about patient’s medication and discharge planning. You will work closely with the multi-disciplinary team to reduce wastage of patient’s own medicines in the hospital environment by checking patient’s own medicines for suitability of use in accordance with standard operating procedures and will be part of the medicines management team. In addition, you will participate in supporting the provision of the department dispensary service undertaking senior technician roles and responsibilities along with your extended role as an Accuracy Checking Pharmacy Technician. You must have experience of working in hospital pharmacy as a qualified pharmacy technician, including ward or clinical experience, and be registered in the UK. You will possess the qualification: SQA Accuracy Checking Pharmacy Technician and/or must obtain both the PDA Assessment & Supply of individual patients medicines and the L&D9DI Assessor for SVQ Pharmacy Services. You will participate in the weekend, departmental and public holiday rotas. The pharmacy service is provided from 8am to 8pm in the CAU and the successful candidate will participate in this extended hours rota. In accordance with AFC terms and conditions you may be required to work over 7 days and/or an extended working day. Driving licence is essential.
