Full Job Description

An exciting position has become available for an Optical Assistant. The salary is flexible dependant on level of experience. Located between our 2 practices in Leith and North Berwick. Previous experience in an optical retail environment is not essential but preferred for this role. Working alongside the Optometrist and the practice team the successful candidate will provide information to customers and help them select the best products and services to ensure they look and feel their best self. Secondly, the candidate will be required to perform a selection of administrative tasks associated with the day to day running of an Optical practice Role Requirements

Role Responsibilities
  • Deliver excellent customer service and demonstrate a high degree of professionalism and confidentiality.
  • Maintain up to date knowledge of our products to recommend the best medical solution/device.
  • Perform work accurately and thoroughly despite time pressure and client volume, whilst maintaining a friendly and professional attitude.
  • Assists the customer in selecting frames and lenses that are best suited for their lifestyle and prescription needs.
  • Assist with contact lenses and dispensing glasses.
  • Assist the Optometrist with visual field assessments
  • Answer telephones, book appointments and deal with all forms of client queries.
  • Accurately operate the POS system.
  • Being proactive in keeping up to date with operational standards and training modules to further their knowledge.
Company Downes Opticians was established in 2008 and has built a vast and loyal patient base serving families throughout their generations. We now have a happy buzzing community practice with a great rapport with the local patients. The practice feels this is due to the personal service available to all patients due to the smaller size of the practice. We believe in employing very competent Optometrists with adequate test time given to each examination dependent on the needs.
