Islington Borough Medicines Optimisation team has an exciting opportunity, for a dynamic pharmacist with a passion for Medicines Optimisation to join our team and make a difference to the population of Islington and North Central London.
We wish to appoint a self-motivated pharmacist with strong clinical pharmacy skills, to ensure the highest standards of care for patients across Islington. This is an ideal development opportunity for Band 7 or Band 8A pharmacists.
You will be responsible for a number of different workstreams to support GP practices and Community Pharmacies with high quality advice and Medicines Optimisation support.
We are seeking a pharmacist with a proven track record in influencing and negotiating with prescribers, innovation and promoting high quality use of medicines. You must also have a broad clinical background, experience of working with different stakeholders and an understanding of current healthcare policy and NHS commissioning.

To support the development of high quality, safe, appropriate and cost-effective use of medicines in collaboration with all other stakeholders in the local health economy and in line with the Medicines Optimisation Strategy.
To deliver a competent and efficient advisory service to GP practices and non-medical prescribers, relating to prescribing, pharmacy, therapeutics and medicines optimisation overall and support the development of community pharmacy services.
On 1 July 2022, NHS North Central London Integrated Care Board (NCL ICB) was established. The ICB is part of North Central London Integrated Care System (ICS). The ICS is a partnership of organisations that come together to plan and deliver joined up health and care services to improve the lives of people in our five boroughs: Barnet, Camden, Enfield, Haringey and Islington.
ICBs are statutory NHS bodies responsible for planning and allocating resources to meet the four core purposes of ICSs:
- to improve outcomes in population health and healthcare
- tackle inequalities in outcomes, experience and access
- enhance productivity and value for money
- help the NHS support broader social and economic development.
