Full Job Description

The role

  Bristol Veterinary School is recruiting two pathologists with vision and commitment to drive veterinary pathology research and teaching for the 21st century. The roles are advertised from Lecturer to Professor level and offered on either our Research and Teaching (Pathway 1) or Education and Teaching (Pathway 3) academic tracks. Full- or Part-time appointments will also be considered.  

What will you be doing?

  At Associate Professor/Professor level, the successful candidate will lead the Veterinary Pathology Unit. You will have, depending on the academic track, an existing track record in leading research (Pathway 1), or leading teaching and related clinical/pedagogical research (Pathway 3) commensurate with the level, communicating their findings widely nationally and internationally. You will also spearhead the development of synergies between fundamental and pre-clinical research and teaching, and clinical pathology for enhancing collaborative research and teaching programmes across the School/University. You will be committed to education through leadership, innovation and a shared vision of what it means to train the veterinary surgeons of the future. At Lecturer/Senior Lecturer level, the successful candidate will join the existing Veterinary Pathology Unit. On Pathway 1, you will have an existing track record in research commensurate with career stage and will be expected to develop and consolidate a relevant research programme. On Pathway 3, you will contribute to, and lead aspects of, the teaching of veterinary pathology, with opportunities to support wider aspects of the clinical and professional curriculum, and educational research. Both roles will involve didactic and practical teaching of veterinary pathology to undergraduate and postgraduate veterinary students, and will contribute to the provision of the School’s post-mortem service, with particular reference companion animals including cats, dogs and horses.  

You should apply if

  You will have a veterinary qualification that can be registered with the RCVS, and either current board status in veterinary pathology (Dip ECVP, Dip ACVP, FRCPath or FACVSc) or eligibility to gain board status in anatomic pathology. You will demonstrate experience of, and a commitment to, training the next generation of veterinary surgeons. Candidates at Associate Professor/Professor level will have experience of leadership. On Pathway 1, you will have a strong track record of publication and grant funding success on a clear upward trajectory. You will develop and consolidate a research group in this area, forging collaborations internally and externally. On Pathway 3 you will have evidence of contribution to educational and clinical initiatives through publications and conference contributions, evidence of ability to attract grant income for educational and/or clinical research On Pathway 1, candidates at Lecturer/Senior Lecturer level will have an established, independent track record in research. On Pathway 3, you will have experience of working and teaching in an academic and/or practice environment.
