Full Job Description

Overview: We are the largest provider of veterinary care in the East Midlands. Scarsdale vets is made up of 12 sites in Derby, Burton and Nottingham, offering farm, equine, small animal first opinion and referral services. The farm practice services a good mix of large beef, dairy cattle and sheep farms, as well as camelids. The vets are supported by an excellent support team, including TB testers and ATTs. The Team: We are looking for an experienced farm vet to join our friendly, sociable and farmer-focused team. Based in Derby, we have a good mix of dairy, beef, sheep, camelid and smallholder clients. We are a large farm team, with a growing team of Vet Techs and ATTs, all supported by excellent nurses. The farm vets share the out-of-hours rota and generous time off in lieu is given. We have a fantastic mix of experienced vets and more recent graduates. The team is well qualified (including 3 CertAVPs and 1 in progress) and we encourage and support further study for all. We provide clinical freedom and are also lucky to have regular support from the cattle health and production team at the University of Nottingham, as well as excellent back-up from the regional, national and international IVC farm team. We are a teaching practice for final year vet students and evidence-based medicine and herd/flock health are central to what we do. We love to run farmer and smallholder meetings and training courses, young farmers events, charity fundraisers and client social events, and we love being a part of the local community. Out-of-the-box thinking is encouraged, whether that means inviting Countryfile to our alpaca blood drives, hosting anatomical cow-painting events, setting up a sheep AI service or having the Derbyshire Fire and Rescue Service see practice with us! The Role: This role would suit a proactive, experienced farm vet who enjoys an environment of continual learning and sharing that knowledge. Our ideal candidate will either already hold a certificate or diploma, be working towards one, or wish to start one in the near future. We actively support development and career progression. We would like someone who can bring new ideas to the table and who has the ability and desire to generate new business and take on new clients. A desire to inspire the future generation of vets would be useful as one-on-one teaching will form part of the role. Our team, from the client care advisors to the admin staff to the vets, techs and ATTs, is at the heart of what we do, and a can-do attitude and the ability to work well within the team is the single most important attribute that we are looking for. If this is what drives you, then less experienced candidates are welcome to apply. Whilst we envisage this being a full-time role, applicants seeking a part-time or flexi-time position are also encouraged. Required skills and experience….
  • 3+ years practical experience of a farm animal caseload with a keenness for both individual medicine and surgery, and herd/flock health management
