As a Qualified and registered Dental Technician, you will join a team of eleven Dental Technicians within the Prosthodontic Laboratory , part of the Restorative & MaxilloFacial Laboratories at Newcastle Dental Hospital. Providing high quality Prosthodontic appliances to our patients within this large Teaching Dental Hospital you will join a busy production team and will also help to support our Undergraduate Student Dentists and Clinical staff in the providing an excellent standard of service to patients. Alongside other senior Technicians you will develop skills, knowledge and experience in all areas of Prosthodontics to enhance your professional development, to learn new techniques and to be involved in the adaptation of new technology such as CAD/ CAM design and manufacture, 3D printing and other Digital developments. As a very busy team, we pride ourselves on the high technical skills we demonstrate every day in the provision of services to our patients, our undergraduates and our staff.

The main duties of this role will be in the provision of a varied range of removable appliances and splints. These comprise partial and complete dentures, Immediate dentures, cobalt chrome frameworks, hard splints and undertaking repairs and additions as required. Working alongside senior Technicians you will develop skills, knowledge and experience on a daily basis to enhance your professional development. Attendance on Clinics supporting Students and Clinicians is required with this role alongside the close collaboration, communication and integration with other Technical teams. Digital skills are desired but not essential, as the rapidly changing development of this technology and its integration into NHS Dentistry gathers pace. An awareness of / interest in CAD/CAM technology is a must as we develop the use of this exciting new capability within our production Laboratories in Newcastle Dental Hospital.   • Producing dental technical appliances prescribed by clinicians related to Prosthodontics.
  • The majority of the specialist work may be the construction of complex techniques including immediate dentures, over dentures and Cobalt Chromes for clinical staff, postgraduate students and undergraduate students.
