Full Job Description

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a highly motivated clinical pharmacist to join our friendly, developing and ambitious cardiothoracic surgery team at Royal Brompton Hospital. As a clinical pharmacist specialising in cardiothoracic surgery, you will need to have broad hospital clinical experience and have experience in the field of cardiothoracic medicine and/or surgery. You will need to have completed at least the Certificate stage of your Postgraduate Diploma in Clinical Pharmacy. The role will involve providing a high-quality clinical pharmacy service to cardiothoracic patients, supporting inpatient ward services and specialist clinics. You will have an active role in attending multidisciplinary surgical and antimicrobial ward rounds and weekly multidisciplinary team meetings. You will help to deliver a high level of patient care in our established pharmacist pre admission surgery clinic, where you will gain unique experience working in a progressive and innovative pathway with members of the wider multidisciplinary team. You must be able to work under pressure and possess excellent problem-solving skills. To provide a safe, efficient and high-quality clinical pharmacy service to cardiothoracic surgery patients and outpatient clinics. To work closely with the Lead and Senior Pharmacists, Surgery and Pain on the development of policies, guidelines and protocols. To execute effective monitoring of the use of medication, adjusting dosages and route of administration through timely intervention and communication with medical, nursing and other healthcare professionals. To deliver a safe, efficient and cost-effective use of medicines within Cardiothoracic Surgery, by the provision of education and training, procedures, protocols, and medicines usage information. To undertake patient consultations in outpatient clinics and make medicines plans using clinical guidelines and protocols. To deliver comprehensive pharmaceutical care to cardiothoracic surgical patients through clinical pharmacy services and attend appropriate MDT ward rounds, clinics and meetings. To assist in implementing agreed clinical governance initiatives. To support a seven day a week clinical service to the Cardiothoracic Surgery service, including Saturdays, Sundays and Bank Holidays. To participate in emergency on-call duties, late dispensary duties as required in the provision of cover for ‘out of hours’ Pharmacy services.
