The post holder will have a key role in the joint development and delivery of the programme with our local GP partner and support from HEE.
The department has got a strong education and training culture and the post holder will work closely with other E&T leads (Lead Pharmacy Technician for E&T and the Lead Pharmacist for Postgraduate education). Further networking and development opportunities are provided at both a local and regional level, particularly focusing on foundation training (via HEE LaSE) and early careers development.
To lead on the education and training for trainee pharmacists within the department and support the development and transformation of new and existing pharmacy workforce. This includes:
- To act as the Educational Programme Director for Trainee Pharmacists to oversee, develop and implement the foundation year training programme together with external bodies and local teams, leading to formal qualification for the trainee.
- To work collaboratively with the Educational Programme Director for the Pharmacy postgraduate education and encourage and support junior pharmacists to undertake a postgraduate qualification.
- To work collaboratively with the Lead pharmacy technician for Education and Training and support the training and development of all pharmacy staff within the department ensuring they have adequate knowledge and competencies to perform their duties.
- To work collaboratively with Education & Training Lead Pharmacists across the ICS to develop cross sector training and experience for trainee pharmacists.
- To lead, develop and co-ordinate the education and training programme for trainee pharmacists.
- To be responsible for the direct line management of allocated pharmacy staff which includes responsibility for regular supervision, appraisal, recruitment, and sickness absence.
- To deliver an advanced comprehensive medicines optimisation service to patients and the multidisciplinary treatment team responsible for their care.
- To participate, lead and support Quality Improvement projects, clinical audits and practice research where required to improve services.
- To provide input into policy and procedures affecting the use of pharmaceuticals at both local and trust wide levels.
- To be part of the Pharmacy Department senior management team.
- To deputise for the Lead Pharmacist which may include attending senior meetings.
- To participate in the pharmacy department out of hours service as per the weekend and oncall rotas.
