EASY WAYS TO RESEARCH EFFECTIVELY FOR AN INTERVIEW

The key to a successful interview is knowing your information. The last thing you want to do is have really good answers prepared and then fall down on not doing your research. Here are some ways that you can smash your interview research:

Research the company

Researching the company is really important for an interview. Sometimes, interviewers will ask you what you know about the company so making sure you know some details is important. The best place to go to find out about a company is their website, read their about page, values and goals. You’ll get a good feel for the company and you’ll have a good idea of their mission and work culture. You can also research them on social media and check out their reviews on recruitment sites, just be aware that not all employees leave a company happy which might effect their review.

Find out who works there

You won’t always know the name of the person who’s interviewing you, but you can find out who works for a company so you can have a good idea of them. Social media is the best way to do this, as long as people add where they work to their profile. LinkedIn has made researching people much easier, you can find someone who works at a company and find more through their connections.

Consider your journey to the interview

How are you planning on getting to the interview? Are you going to drive or go on public transport? If you drive, are you going to go back roads or main roads? Will you take a train, bus or both? Travel can create a lot of anxiety so it’s always best to think about this in advance and do your research. Research how long different routes to your destination take so that you can choose which one is best for you, at the time of day you’re travelling.

If you’re taking public transport, research which buses or trains you need to take. Check if there are any works or strikes that might effect your trip and always allow time for delays. It’s much better to arrive too early than late.

Research current topics or trends within your industry

If you’re planning on staying in the same field, you might find that you already know the majority of topics and trends within it. However, there’s no harm in researching them further is there? You might find that you learn a new perspective or find something new that you didn’t know about before. If you’re moving industries, make sure you research as much as possible about the sector for your interview. If, for example, you’re moving from tech into Care, you’ll need to read through rules and regulations to ensure you can answer basic questions in your interview.
